Portsmouth Police spent a large part of their day dealing with 2 angry naked guys. Plus a woman shot a burglar in the back and teens reported a strange vehicle following them. We break down the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Under The Influence

  • Just before 1:30 am, a Gallia Street caller reported an apparently high woman in jeans and a tank top walking on out of the street. Police were unable to locate her.
  • Ten minutes later a caller reported a possible overdose on Argonne Road. The woman regained consciousness without medical help and refused additional treatment from the police and fire department.
  • Police and paramedics responded to a report of an overdose on Argonne Road at 4:55 pm. The man refused treatment.

Shots Fired?

Just after 2 am, a Findlay Street caller reported hearing shots near Alexandria House. Officers did not find anything suspicious.

Woman Shoots Burglar In Back

At 2:49 am, a Dunlap Road neighbor reported that the woman across the street shot a man who broke into her house. The man fled the scene and the woman ran to the neighbor’s house for help.

Boss Caught Embezzling From Portsmouth Business

Police searched several houses but were unable to locate the suspect. However, he left his phone and clothing at the house. Police impounded the items.

At 1:24 pm, police learned the suspect Brandon Barrett had been shot in the back and needed medical attention. Officers then took him into custody on charges of aggravated burglary.

Angry Naked Guys

An 11th Street caller contacted police at 5 am to report a naked man who was outside his home screaming at neighbors. An officer spoke to the naked man and contacted his caseworker.

A different naked guy yelling at people caused a stir at 1 pm. A caller reported a half-naked man yelling behind a business on Chillicothe Street. Five minutes later, another caller reported the man on the railroad tracks behind Pen Station.

Officers found him running on the levee. They retrieved his coat and shirt where he left them and returned the clothing to him. They noted he has noticeable sores on his arm. He put his shirt back on but refused multiple offers to get him to go to the hospital.

About an hour later, another caller reported the same shirtless man, beating on items and throwing a trash can. Police found him Behind Bob and Floyds but did not attempt to take him into custody.

The 11th Street naked guy was at it again later that night 1:13 pm. A caller reported him screaming on his porch. This time, an ambulance transported him to SOMC for evaluation.

Suspicious Activity

Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Grant Street at 7:44 am and got to hear a pretty convoluted story that needed three law enforcement agencies to sort out.

The vehicle had been reported stolen previously and had fictitious tags. However, the woman sleeping in it said she was the cousin of the owner and making payments on the vehicle. The vehicle had been wrecked.

Officers confirmed the woman had a warrant out of Pike County, so they transported her to the county line to hand her over.  New Boston Police impounded the tags. PPD impounded that vehicle and another vehicle parked in the alley with no tags.

Man Threatens Mom

Just after noon, a local mental health facility told officers a man made threats against his mother in a dispute over money. The man had a violent history, so the facility did an emergency hospital admissions order and asked police to transport the troubled man.

The man went to the hospital without incident.

Dumpster Eviction

An 11th Street medical officer called the police at 12:25 pm and asked them to check on a man who’d taken up residence in their dumpster. He wasn’t home when police dropped by.

Boy Running Wild

A Stewart Avenue caller reported a neighbor boy throwing rocks at residents’ cars just after 1 pm. The boy allegedly scratched a car.

The caller said the child’s grandmother used to keep him in check but she passed away last month. Now, the boy is constantly tearing up property and looking into vacant houses. Police said they would follow up.

Kids Report Being Followed

Two teenagers told police they were being followed by a black Ford Ranger on 5th Street. Officers responded to the scene at 1:15 pm and gave them a ride to the Speedway.
