Nikki Blankenship is a journalist born and raised in Scioto County. Blankenship grew up in Minford, where she graduated high school in 2001. Following, Blankenship attended Shawnee State University where she majored in English and history and minored in communications, linguistics, and journalism. After completing her undergraduate studies, Blankenship earned an M.S. in Psychology with a concentration in psychology of culture and went on to pursue her Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration with a concentration in local government management for sustainable communities. She is currently all but dissertation on her final degree.
Throughout her more than 12 years working in local news, Blankenship has covered major social issues as well as highlighted the strengths and unity of the community during tragedies and success alike. She has worked for two local newspapers and started one of the area’s first news websites. While working in local media, she has also stepped out of the newsroom and worked in advertising and even sports.
When Blankenship isn’t chasing a story, she enjoys her time with her four children -- Haylee, Nicole, Darby and Cambridge and her grandson Eden. It is their support that drives her in all her endeavors from news to sideshow.
We are a grassroots team of local journalists on a mission to give our community up-to-the-second news and events for Southern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Western West Virginia. We believe progress inspires change and we believe our reporting has become the front-lines of Portsmouth, Ohio's comeback.
