Bobby Dean Whitaker, 69, of McDermott, passed on to be with the Lord, on August 8, 2022. He was born on September 15, 1952, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the youngest son of Ernest and Alka Whitaker, both deceased.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy Gene Whitaker, Burl Douglas Whitaker, and Richard Franklin Whitaker; and two sisters, Eleanor Irene Whitaker and Louella Applegate.
Surviving are one brother, Charles Whitaker, of McDermott; and one sister, Linda Elaine Klosowski of Stanford, Ky. Also surviving are Casey and Seth Jones whom Bobby dearly loved as his own grandchildren.
As a young boy, Bobby attended the little country church located just across from the family farm, and he recently confirmed that he trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He developed a great passion for football that he enjoyed as a Northwest Mohawk, and was a lifelong fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Bengals. Bobby’s infectious smile, twinkling eyes, hearty laugh, and genuine care for other people made him a favorite among many people. You wouldn’t be around Bobby for long before he would engage you in a lively, friendly conversation. Yet beneath this friendly, welcoming demeanor was a man that would give his all to an effort.
As a result of this attitude, Bobby became a valued employee to a number of local businesses, including two family businesses, Custom Tree Service and Solid Rock Construction. Among his other passions were reading, gardening, landscaping, and sculpting stone and wood into fine artwork. The furniture that he made from stone, such as lamps, are greatly treasured by his nieces and nephews. He doted upon his second nieces and nephews with great affection. Bobby will be greatly missed. Yet, his family are so thankful that GOD allowed him to bless their lives for so many years.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Roger W. Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, Ohio, with Maurice Pierce officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park.
