Officers responded to the discovery of two dead in one hour and several reports of severely intoxicated individuals. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Under the Influence
- Just after 3 pm, police answered a call about an apparently intoxicated man on 24th Street. The caller said he could barely stand. Police took the man into custody.
- Twenty minutes later a caller reported a woman lying face down in Tracy Park. The woman said she was just taking a nap.
- Just before 2 am, an officer spotted a woman lying on the ground in the parking lot of Vern Riffe Center for the Arts. She appeared to be overdosing. An ambulance transported her to the hospital.
- Police responded to Kroger for a report of people passed out in a vehicle at the back of the store at 8:30 pm. Officers detained a man and woman. They arrested the pair and arranged to have their vehicle towed.
Can’t We All Just Get Along?
A Grant Street caller reported a shirtless man and woman fighting in the street at 5 pm. Officers took the man into custody.
Worried Grandma
Just after 11 am, a worried grandma contacted police to say that her grandchild’s father had refused to return the child to the grandmother’s home in Columbus. The grandmother had legal custody.
Officers took the man into custody on an open warrant.
Suspicious Activity
- SOMC reported a man at the hospital with multiple Social Security Cards, IDs, and credit cards with different names on them. Security handed the items over to the police.
- Officers were once again called back to 3rd Street for a report of a suspicious man. A resident said he was lurking in front of her house for an hour. By the time police arrived, the man had left.
- At 10:12 pm, a Robinson Avenue caller reported a man fighting himself and yelling on the sideway near Burger King. Officers took the man into custody.
Dead on Arrival
A woman called police to report finding her brother unresponsive at an 8th Street home at 6:30 pm
Medics pronounced the man dead and the coroner agreed to release the body to a local funeral home.
Body Discovered on Wilson Avenue
At 7:26 pm, a man contacted police to report discovering his father dead in his Wilson Street home. Medics declared the man dead.
The coroner ordered the body transported to Montgomery County for an autopsy.
