Portsmouth Police Officers had a hard time figuring out to do with kids they took into custody at a traffic stop. Children Services in two counties refused to take them. Plus, officers were hot on the trail of a masked meat bandit.  We’ll tell you how it all ended up and have the highlights of Monday’s PPD calls in these next 7 slides. Wanna see more? For Giving, Not Taking

Just after midnight, a caller reported that someone attempting to damage donation bins on Gay Street.

Officers advised a person on the scene to stay out of donation boxes.

Under The Influence

  • Police responded to the Marathon on the Scioto Trail at 3:19 am. A caller reported a man passed out behind the wheel of his car for about 10 minutes. The vehicle was towed.
  • At 5:30 am, officers responded to another person passed out behind the wheel. This time at the intersection of Gallia and Harding. However, this suspect left before police arrived at 6 am.
  • Just before 1 pm, A caller reported a woman had overdosed on the kitchen floor of a Mabert Road home. The woman was revived by the Portsmouth Fire Department but refused further treatment. She was no longer welcome at the home, so she was dropped off at Speedway on Gallia.
  • Police were called to Bannon Park just after 8:30 pm for a report of an OD.

Masked Meat Bandit

  • Officers were called to Kroger for a report of a meat theft. Just after 11 am.
  • A passerby observed man in a surgical mask holding a bunch of meat run into the Alexandria house. Kroger said they’d file a report when the person who handles thefts got in.
  • PHMA was notified and will review their security cameras.

Playground Problems

  • Just after 2 pm, police received a report that children had managed to set a Thomas Avenue playground on fire.
  • At 2:30, officers were called to Tracy Park for a report of someone lying on the ground in the playground. It turned out to be some old clothes.
  • Just after 7 pm, a caller reported a group of people arguing in Bannon Park. They were gone when police arrived.
  • At 8:18 pm, a caller reported a large crowd in Mound Park. Turned out to be a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.

Against Her Will

A caller asked police to make contact with a woman just after 8:30 pm. She said the woman’s boyfriend was keeping her and her five-year-old son against there will. She said the man had taken the woman’s phone and wouldn’t allow her to talk.

A few minutes later she called back and said to disregard the call. The woman was fine.

Don’t Ask CPS For Help

  • Police made a traffic stop involving several juveniles on Thomas Avenue just before 9 am. They attempted to contact CPS to figure out what to do with the kids, several of which were from out of town.
  • Local CPS told police there was nothing they could do. So, they attempted to contact Ross County CPS. Police were told they would not respond.
  • Police then tried the Chillicothe Police and asked them to attempt to contact parents.
  • Officers once again tried Scioto County Children Services but were told there was nothing they could do legally.  According to Police “All attempts to make contact with parents failed, CPS refused to help.”
  • Finally, sometime after midnight on Monday, officers were able to contact parents who advised they’d try to have someone pick up the kids.

Take Your Stuff And Go

  • A woman called PPD at 9:40 pm to report her ex was banging on the door of her 5th Street home demanding his belongings.
  • He was gone when police arrived. Officers advised her to bring his belonging to the porch.
  • The man was advised to come to get them while the police were there.
  • The man was reported to be belligerent and cursed at officers on the phone.
