A domestic violence victim refused offers of help from the police, and dogs alert a homeowner to suspicious activity. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
A Gallia Street caller contacted police just before midnight to report her dogs were going crazy, barking at a condemned house. She believed someone was on the property.
Officers said there was very limited access to the house and it was physically dangerous to investigate. They didn’t see or hear anything suspicious from the outside.
Out-of-Control Boyfriend
A woman contacted police just before 1 am to report her boyfriend broke her steering column. However, she did not want to press charges.
She said she would leave the home for the evening and call officers tomorrow for assistance while she retrieved her belongings.
Domestic Violence Victim Refuses Help From Police
At 3:28 am, officers responded to a Wayne Avenue apartment for a report of a man beating a woman. A man knocked the female resident unconscious at this apartment a few days earlier.
When officers arrived on the scene, they heard a man and woman arguing, but the argument stopped when they knocked on the door.
After officers made several attempts to make contact, the woman who was previously injured answered the door. She claimed the man was no longer there, but officers felt she was not telling the truth. She would not allow them to check the apartment.
Since she had no visible injuries, police could not enter the apartment without permission.
Mom Calls For Help When Son Passes Away
An alarm company contacted police at 6:00 am to say a woman pressed her alarm button and advised them that her son was dead.
Officers headed to the scene, where they discovered a deceased individual. Officers called for the funeral home and took information for a report.
Pit Bull Attack at Woodbine Apartments
A caller contacted police at 10:30 am to report a pit bull bit him at the Woodbine Apartments. He said the dog’s owner was still on the scene.
Officers took information for a report.
Breaking and Entering
At 11:32 am, a woman contacted police to report someone broke into her sister’s home on Coles Blvd and stole her vehicle. Police took information for a report. OnStar was able to locate the vehicle, but no one could find the keys.
Forty-five minutes later, a Campbell Avenue caller reported someone broke into a shed. Officers took information for a report.
Spitting Mad on Summit Street
Officers responded to Summit Street at 1:40 pm after a woman complained her mother spit on her during an argument.
Officers took one woman into custody after she was unable to calm down and speak to officers about what happened.
