The inmate accidentally released by the Scioto County Jail is back behind bars and Sheriff Marty Donini is apologizing for the mistake and promising to find out how it happened.

Sheriff Donini reported that Michigan police arrested Talleon Brazil, 31, of Detroit, Michigan over the weekend.

Brazil, who was doing time in Michigan for carjacking, assault, drug, and weapons charges had been transferred from Michigan to the Scioto County Jail to face drug charges in Scioto County. He was booked into the Scioto County Jail and appeared in Common Pleas Court on January 16. Brazil was appointed a lawyer and entered a not guilty plea. The court set bail at $50,000 and scheduled another hearing for February 4th.

Bond was posted for Brazil on January 21. Sheriff Donini says an officer at the Scioto County Jail failed to notice that Brazil was an inmate serving a 15 to 40-year sentence for  2010 crimes including unarmed robbery, carjacking, felony firearms, possession of weapons by a felon, and delivery or manufacture of a controlled substance. A holder was placed on his record that should have made him ineligible for release to anyone but the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Michigan Department of Corrections officials said he was picked up by members of his family and driven back home to Detroit. Scioto County notified MDOC of the mistake and filed a motion to revoke his bond on Friday. Brazil was arrested over the weekend at a home in Detroit.

Sheriff Donini apologized for the incident and said that he was conducting an internal investigation to find out how the mistake happened. He also said that once the investigation is complete, any employees found to be responsible for the error will be disciplined.
