Living On The Streets
Just after 9:30 am, officers noted multiple people living in cars parked in the 900 block of 10th Street. They called for a tow truck to remove the vehicles.
A Walnut Street business contacted PPD at 10 am to report a Lincoln full of drug paraphernalia was left on their lot. Police advised them to have it towed.
An Offnere Street property owner called to complain that several homeless people were staying on her property. The people had left by the time officers arrived. Officers told her to call them if they come back.
Around 3 am, an officer spoke to a man hanging around some buildings up for sale in the 1200 block of Offnere. He told the officer he was homeless and looking for a place to charge his phone.
Unwanted Campers Pester Property Owners
Officers responded to railroad property on 8th Street after a witness spotted some folks setting up a tent just after midnight. The caller said the pair had a fire going. Officers checked near the train yard and under the viaduct but could not locate any campers.
A Portsmouth property owner called the police just before 11 am to report an issue with squatters on his property. He said he purchased property on 16th Street, but there were people living in a car parked on his land who refused to leave.
Police warned the car campers off, and they left the scene. Since the vehicle was on private property, it was up to the property owner to have it towed away.
