A noisy pot smoker aggravated his neighbors, and you won’t believe what else cops found at his house. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
- Just after 7 am, a 4th Street caller reported a strange man standing outside her home. She was afraid to leave the home for work with him there. Police spoke with the man who offered no explanation for being in the area other than taking a walk. An officer sent him on his way.
- Officers responded to a report of three suspicious people near the dumpster of an 11th Street Apartment. The caller said they appeared to be on drugs. The three said they were cleaning out their vehicle while waiting for a friend. Police discovered two of the individuals had open warrants. They took a woman into custody.
- Just before 1 pm, a caller reported a man lying in the parking lot of O’Reilly Auto Parts having a seizure. An ambulance transported him to the hospital.
Vehicle Vandalized on 20th Street
A 20th Street caller contacted police at 9:27 am to report someone poured red paint on his vehicle during the night.
The vehicle was parked in the alley behind the home. Officers took information for a report.
Criminal Damaging
An 18th Street caller reported house windows broken out just after 2 pm. Police spike with a landlord who said tenants broke the window and other things in the home. He said he’s filed to evict the tenants.
Officers advised the landlord that it was a civil matter.
Under the Influence
- Just after 3 pm, a 7th Street caller reported an apparently high man in the alley. An ambulance transported him to the hospital.
- Police responded to Kroger for a report of a man wearing only shorts screaming at customers. Police took the man into custody at 4 pm.
- At 11:29 pm, police responded to Oasis Convenient Mart for a report of a woman overdosing. She agreed to seek help at a local rehab facility.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
- A Grandview Avenue caller contacted police to report her purse was taken out of her vehicle. Someone took items out of it and left it in the front yard. Police took information for a report.
- At 5:30 pm, a Charles Street caller reported someone broke into a home and stole some flooring that was stored there. However, police discovered she did not own the home and had left the flooring there knowing it was not secure.
Siblings Call Cops Over Microwave Dispute
A woman contacted police at 1 am to report her brother stole her microwave and she could not heat up her frozen meals.
Officers spoke with the brother at 1:30 am. He said the microwave was a gift from his mother. He agreed to let his sister have it to keep family harmony.
Officers Investigate Noisy Pot-Smoker
Just after 3 am, police responded to a report of loud music coming from a PMHA apartment. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered an open window and said you could hear loud music and TV commercials all the way out on the street.
They knocked repeatedly on the door before the resident opened it and noted a strong smell of pot coming from the apartment as well as a spent 45 round on the sidewalk. Police said the man was verbally combative but eventually agreed to turn down the sound.
Officers said they would step up patrols in the area.
