A car crash closes Mabert Road and officers investigate shots fired overnight. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Crash Closes Mabert Road
A crash shut down part of Mabert Road for more than three hours.
Just after 9:22 pm, police responded to a report of two vehicles flipped over in the road. Officers shut down the road and contacted the electric and gas companies.
Police took a man into custody for a sobriety test and arranged to have the vehicles towed. The road reopened just before 1 am.
Under the Influence
Just before 9:30 pm, police responded to a report of an overdosed woman on Kendall Avenue. Portsmouth Ambulance transported her to the hospital for treatment.
At 11 am, police responded to a local rehab facility to assist with a patient having a psychotic break. He was transported to SOMC.
A 6th Street caller reported an apparently high man going through a dumpster at 11:01 am. Police were unable to locate him.
Crowbar at McDonald’s
A McDonald’s employee reported that a man showed up at the restaurant just after 10 pm and threatened him with a crowbar before running off. Police took information for a report.
Suspicious Activity
A Jackson Avenue caller reported 4 people coming out of an upstairs window of a home and then running off. The owner of the home told police, he believes the culprits were neighborhood kids and he did not want to press charges.
Grandview Avenue residents reported an unknown elderly mail ringing their doorbell. EMS had helped the same gentleman earlier after a fall and transported him to his home. Since he was suffering from memory loss and appeared disoriented, police dropped him off at the home of a relative.
Shots Fired on Summit Street
Just after 2 am, an officer near Wayne Hills reported hearing shots fired and the sound of a vehicle taking off quickly.
At the same time, a Summit Street caller reported gunshots in the 1500 block of Summit Street.
Police responded to the area and discovered several shell casings but no shooters. Police took information for a report.
Grandmas Getting Into It
At 12:21 pm, police responded to Boundary Street for a dispute between two grandmas who also happen to be sisters.
The sisters were arguing because one woman allegedly pushed the other’s granddaughter down. Police advised everyone involved.
