A mom discovers suspected drugs and police respond to a report of a possible body part found on the hilltop. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Under the Influence
A caller from Kroger reported a woman sitting on the floor near the service desk who kept nodding in and out. Eventually, the woman got up and left the store.
At 2 pm, a Gallia Street caller reported an apparently high man falling on the ground next to a white Volkswagen Beetle. Police took the man into custody and impounded the car.
EMS and Police responded to a 6th Street home when a woman was discovered unconscious and not breathing on the bathroom floor. She was awake by the time police arrived and refused treatment.
Those Aren’t My Drugs
A worried mom called the police at 9:52 pm to report a disturbing find among her daughter’s belongings. She told officers she loaned her daughter a makeup bag while she was in the hospital. When she looked inside the bag, she found suspected drugs. The daughter claimed the drugs weren’t hers and that a friend had probably left the drugs behind. Police collected the items.
Just after midnight, a caller reported a man in a hoodie carrying a needle on 5th Street. When police caught up with the man, he advised that he was homeless. He did have the tube of a needle on him, but he claimed it was not his and that he’d just picked it up. He was walking around the area because he had no place to go. Police said he appeared fine and let him go.
Possible Body Part Found
A Mound Street caller contacted police at 2:42 pm to report a possible body part found in a container.
Woman Claims Stalking By Neighbor
A Forrest Avenue woman once again claimed her neighbor is stalking her.
Police dealt with the issue several times last year but the woman sent a 4-page letter claiming he was once again stalking her. The neighbor requested police speak to the woman.
She refused to answer the door but did agree to speak to the officer via the Ring doorbell.
The woman claims a voice alerts her whenever the man is around and she activates her doorbell to observe him. She said she was stalked when she lived in another town but police refused to help her.
She claimed to have videos proving the stalking incidents but said she deleted them because she feared police would impound her phone.
The officer suggested she might want to consider seeking help for the voices but she became angry and ended the conversation.
Toddler Found Wandering Alone
Just after 11:30 pm, police responded to Wayne Avenue for a report of a toddler out alone. A resident said the child just showed up at their door and they could not locate an adult.
Police checked around and discovered an unlocked door. The toddler had been asleep in bed with its mother and managed to get up and open the front door. Police returned the child to its mom.
