Strange Whistling
Just after 1 am, a Summit Street Caller told police she thought someone has pushed in her back door. She’d placed a board across the door. She said the board appeared bowed. The caller also complained of whistling noise outside.
The responding officer said the board looked fine. The caller expressed concern about a possible phone tap.
Child In Danger?
- At 3:23 am, a caller told police she feared a juvenile female was being sexually assaulted. Police took information for a report.
- At 9:45 am, Children Services went to the Police Department to report a sexual assault.
Under The Influence
- Police answered a report of someone passed out in a cat at the Speedway on Gallia at 5:25 am. Officers assisted the person.
- At 6 am, officers answered a report of an overdose on Kent Street. They assisted medics.
- A caller reported a possibly high man on Mound Street just before 9 am. An ambulance transported him to the hospital. The man had a warrant through New Boston, but NBPD declined to serve it.
- An apparently high woman showed up at Kroger just after 4 pm. The store said she’d been in the store for hours and was acting strangely. Police advised her to leave. She agreed to take her belongings off store property and wait for a ride.
- Police answered called to a local rehab center at 8 pm for a report that a man had overdosed and was not breathing. He was alert by the time police arrived.
- A caller reported a man standing in the middle of Gallia Street at 7:30 pm, waving his arms around. Police advised him to stay out of the roadway.
- Police got a call from a 7th Street resident at 9:30 pm. The caller said a cap dropped of a disoriented man at his home. The man does not live there. Police arranged for an ambulance to take the guy to the hospital.
DOA
Police responded to 8th Street for a report of a DOA. Officers talked to the coroner. He ordered the body transported to Montgomery County for autopsy.
Court Scam
At 10:30 am, a man reported identity theft to the police. He claimed his wife’s Social Security Number was used in a case in Portsmouth Municipal Court.
He said he was contacted by Lifeproof. Someone claimed his wife’s SSM number was used on 9-7-2020. As 9-7-2020 was Labor Day, there were no cases. Police told him it sounded like a scam.
Hey! That’s My Stuff
- A woman contacted police at 10:30 am to report a car break-in on 5th Street. She said someone had been in her vehicle but it appeared nothing was missing.
- At 11:28 am, police received a report that items from a burglary were inside a boarded-up house on Royce Street. Police checked but did not find the items.
- Officers responded to a report of a tool trailer broken into in a funeral home parking lot on Gallis Street at 1:30 pm. The caller reported $800 worth of tools missing.
- Police arrested a man in a black hat and pink backpack for shoplifting at Kroger at 4:39 pm. They charged him with theft and obstructing official business. It was his sixth arrest.
Excavator Causes Accident
An excavator hit an old phone line in the 4800 block of Gallia at 3 pm. The line fell and struck a van and truck driving in the Westbound lane of US 52.
The company cut the old line and cleared traffic. Police said the company would contact the owners of the vehicle to pay for their damages. Police reported no injuries.
Out of Control
Just after 3 pm, police were notified about a fire on Milldale Road. Someone was burning leaves and the fire got out of control.
Firefighters responded with the brush truck and put out the fire.
Panhandling Problem
Panhandling is a reoccurring problem in the Gallia and Kendall area. At 4:47 pm, police got a call about a man in a gray hoodie harassing people for money. The man left the scene before police arrived.
Cry For Help
Just after 6 pm, police responded to Summit Street for a report of a combative suicidal man. Police were forced to restrain him. They forcibly carried him to an ambulance. Officers also accompanied the ambulance to SOMC and assisted helped take him to a room.
The man fought with officers and attempted to bite them. There were no injuries to officers.
