PPD – Grand Theft Auto and Crazy Exes

Portsmouth, Ohio Police dealt with an unusually high number of stolen vehicles, troublesome exes, and a blue-haired lady who punched a car. We break down the highlights of a busy Tuesday in these 15 slides.

Threats From An Ex

A man called police at 12:47 am to report that his girlfriend’s ex made in-person threats against him. When officers arrived, he explained he wasn’t afraid of the guy but was concerned about his girlfriend’s safety.

The officer checked in on the girlfriend. She was fine.

Screaming and Cussing

At 1 am, a 6th Street caller reported two men and a woman screaming at each other on the sidewalk. Officers could not locate them.

Just after 2 am, the office at the Four Keys Inn called about people arguing in the parking lot and cussing out the staff. The suspects left before police arrived.

Hanging Out At Church at 2 am

Officers answered a call to North Moreland Christian Church on Harrisonville just after 2 am. The caller reported someone sitting in a vehicle and shining a flashlight behind the church. The folks in the car told police they were just hanging out. Officers advised them to leave.

Hey, That’s My Car!

  • A man reported a vehicle theft with some domestic complications just before 5 am. He stated that his mother’s car was stolen from Wayne Hills. The man knew exactly who the thief was. He said his wife is to blame. Officers took a report.
  • A caller reported a camouflage 4-wheeler on a trailer and several garbage bags of deer food missing from a Pleasant Avenue address just before 7 am. The 4-wheeler tag is 2PY49 and the trailer tag is SYJ7467.
  • Officers responded to another vehicle theft at 7:26 am. This time on the Scioto Trail. A blue Kia Optima went missing overnight. The victim received an alert her ATM card was used in South Bloomfield sometime overnight.
  • Officers searched a Harding Avenue address for two Grand Theft Auto suspects. They are suspected of stealing several vehicles from Columbus in recent weeks. The subject was not at that address.

Under The Influence

  • Officer responded to a report of an overdose on Hutchins Street just after 5 am. The patient refused treatment.
  • The property manager of a 3Rd Street Apartment discovered a baggy filled apparent marijuana in a common area just after noon. An officer impounded the baggy and a marijuana grinder.
  • Officers responded to the Super Quik for a report of a man OD’s in a vehicle at the pump. An ambulance took him to the hospital.

Oh Deer

  • Just after 7 am, a caller reported that a deer ran into the side of a vehicle on the Kinneys Lane side of Greenlawn Cemetery. The deer survived.
  • Officers responded to the Scioto Trail at 4 pm for a report of kids finding bones. The bones belonged to a deer.

Needles, Meth Materials, and a Broken Leg

Police received a report from a probation officer that he discovered meth-making materials and needles at a Williams Street home. The probationer has a broken leg and can’t be housed at the jail.

No charges were filed, but he wanted police to document the evidence of drug abuse.

Hey, That’s My Stuff

AT 12:19 pm, police answered a call to Circle City Pawn about a theft.

Four minutes later, they took a theft report from the Diamond Gem Lending Company

CPS Check

Police assisted a CPS worker with a welfare check just before 1:30 pm. A grandfather has custody of a minor but he is apparently having some issues.

The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office administered a urine test that came back positive for cocaine.

Cry For Help

Officers and medics responded to a medical alarm on Grandview Avenue at 3 pm. They forced entry into the home and assisted a woman who fell in her kitchen. An ambulance took her to the hospital.

They contacted someone with a key to the house and secured the door as best they could.

Family Feud

A 19-year-old called officers at 2:45 pm to report his mother is drunk and had locked him out of the house. Officers said she eventually let him back in.

An hour later he called back and said his mother smacked him in the face. He also claimed his brothers hit him with baseball bats. He decided to leave for the evening.

But, I Tell You, She’s Crazy

A man called police just before 5 pm to report that a woman at his Gallia Street home was hallucinating. He claimed she has mental issues.

He told the officer he called because he wanted the woman to leave the house. Police said she seemed fine and answered questions for EMS with no problem. She refused medical treatment. The man was upset with the police because they would not arrest the woman or take her to the hospital.

Please Stop Calling

A 5th Street woman keeps calling the police for non-police matters. She called 911 to report she felt as if she was having a nervous breakdown and also to ask if they could run her Social Security Number to check for warrants.  Officers once again advised her that 911 is for emergencies.

Playing In Traffic

A Gallia Street caller reported a blue-haired woman pushing a stroller walking in traffic. She walked into the caller’s car and then punched it. Police said she’d left the area by the time they arrived.

Alarming Situation

  • An alarm sounded at the Star Adult Workshop just after 8:30 pm. Police said all appeared secure.
  • Ten minutes later a residential alarm went off at a Park Avenue home. The resident said everything was fine.
  • At 9:27 pm, an alarm went off at the Scioto Ribber. Everything looked to be secure.
  • Just before 10 pm, another alarm sounded at a Gallia Street business. The owner’s son accidentally set it off.
