PPD – Guns, Knives, & a Lady In A Jason Mask

Portsmouth Police faced an unusual assortment of cases on Tuesday. From a woman in a ‘Jason’ mask at the Dollar General to a guy sharpening a knife at a picnic table to reports of a kid with a gun. We break down the highlights in these next 12 slides.

Kid With A Gun

  • Just before 1 am, a caller reported a group of kids near a Kendall Avenue apartment building. The caller said one of them had a gun. Officers checked it out but couldn’t find him.
  • At 4:30 am, a caller reported two men near Bannon Park with a handgun. The caller said a shot was fired. Officers patted down two men at the scene. Neither had a weapon on them but they refused to allow police to search their car.

Hey, That’s My Stuff

  • An Auburn Avenue caller told police that a man stole his house keys just after 1 am. Police took a report and checked out the area for the suspect.
  • A Dorman Drive resident reported a break-in at 7:30 pm. She said someone took her TVs. Police took a report.
  • Police took a report for a stolen gun from a 29th Street resident just after 10 pm.
  • At 10:14 pm, they responded to Speedway. A caller reported a lost or stolen wallet containing cash, credit cards, and an ID.

Lost And Found

Just before 3 am, a caller reported a runaway kid.  Officers checked Wayne Hills for the missing kid. Half an hour later, the same caller reported the girl was home safe and sound.

False Alarms

  • Police answered a commercial alarm at a Gallia Street business at 6:45 am. Everything looked to be okay.
  • Half an hour later, an alarm sounded at a 4th Street business. The alarm company called to say an employee had accidentally set it off.
  • Just after 8 pm, an alarm went off at the PHS food pantry. Everything was fine.
  • Officers responded to a burglar alarm at a Mound Street residence just after 8 am. The homeowner advised it was a false alarm.

Under The Influence

  • Police responded to a report of a woman acting oddly in a car on 24th Street just before 9 am. The caller reported that an apparently high woman was pulling her hair and twitching.
  • Officers arrested the woman for OVI and had the car towed. They also notified the suspect’s mother, the owner of the car.
  • Police said drug use was being a call to the Woodbine Apartments at 10:42 am. A caller reported a man was threatening people with a knife.  Police said discovered no threats were made with a weapon. The dispute was drug-related. The suspect was using drugs with the caller’s brother.
  • The Dollar General on Harding reported an unusual customer around 6:30 pm. A woman wearing a ‘Jason’ mask bothered customers and employees. The caller believed she was on drugs.  Officers weren’t sure if she was high or having other problems. They advised her to move on.
  • A caller reported a man running in and out of traffic on 12th street at 11:18 pm. They also said he was making threats. An ambulance took him to the hospital.

Mess in a Box

Officers responded to a call at Gallia and Armstong place at 10:58 am. A caller reported subjects throwing items out of a donation box.

Police said the mess was nothing new. They tried to get in touch with the company that put the donation box there. Officers said the number has been disconnected.

DOA

A medic reported a body at 17th Street and Kendall at 10:30 am. Police notified the coroner.  The coroner ordered the body taken to Montgomery County for an autopsy.

Something’s Missing – I Think

A Chillicothe Street caller notified police just after 11:30 that someone broke into her storage unit. She said she wasn’t sure what was missing as she is disabled and can’t get into the unit. She was also unsure of what she stored in the unit.

Cry For Help

A worried mom called police at 3:15 pm to report that her daughter had threatened suicide. The daughter told her brother she’d left written instructions on what was to be done with her children.

Police attempted to figure out where the woman was located. Her mother called back to say she’d made contact and the daughter seemed to be okay.

This One Will Do

Officers headed to the Oasis Convenient Mart just after 8 pm to pick up a guy with a felony warrant from the NBPD. They couldn’t find him, but they did find another fellow with an active warrant through PPD. He was arrested.

Time To Move On

Officers responded to a report of a woman walking around Sterling Avenue looking into car windows at 9:30 pm. They suggested she move on.

Stop Scaring The Kids

Officers answered a call to the 14th Street Community Center at 10:30 pm. A shirtless man was playing with a knife and pretending to cut himself. The caller said he was scaring children.

Police spoke to him. He claimed he was just sharpening it at the picnic table. Police told him it’s not a good idea to sharpen knives in public.
