PPD – Shirtless Suspects and Tomahawks

Portsmouth Police were hot on the trail of a shirtless suspect and on the lookout for a dude armed with a tomahawk and billy club Monday. Plus they dealt with an angry pregnant woman who pulled down her mask to cough on people We break down the highlights.

Shirtless and Suspicious

  • Just after 2 am, Portsmouth Police received a call about a shirtless man jumping and out of traffic at the Chillicothe Street Overpass.  When police arrived, they couldn’t locate him.
  • Officers responded to another report of a shirtless man at 3:10 am. This time the caller said, he was walking the middle of the road on the Scioto Trail. He was gone when police arrived.
  • Just before 7 pm, police answered a call to Gallia Street. The caller reported an apparently high shirtless man yelling and screaming. He was gone before police arrived.

Under The Influence

  • A caller reported a man overdosing at the Woodbine Apartments on Kendall Avenue at 3:38 am. He refused to go to the hospital.
  • A Grandview Avenue caller informed police at 12:30 pm that their adult son was high on drugs and tearing up the inside of a vehicle.  It turned out he was tearing up his own truck, which isn’t actually a crime. However, he was served a summons on an active warrant from Portsmouth Municipal Court.
  • Just after 5 pm. the caller reported an apparently high man with a bicycle in a field on Kendall Avenue. They said he kept falling down. Police could not locate him.
  • Police responded to a reported overdose in front of a Linden Avenue home at 7 pm. The woman refused treatment.
  • A few minutes later, a caller reported a vehicle stopped at 20th and High Street with the driver passed out. The driver had left by the time police arrived.
  • Another overdose call at 7:15 pm. This time, a woman at the Woodbine Apartments. She refused treatment.
  • Officers answered a call to the Speedway just after 9 pm. A caller reported a possible overdose in a truck. The vehicle had left by the time police arrived.

This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

  • Just after 10 am, a caller reported sliced tires on their Ford F150 truck parked on 14th Street. Officers took information for a report.
  • Just after 2pm, a Timmonds Avenue caller reported that a neighbor stole her porch swing. Officers discovered the man already had a warrant. He was issued a summons in lieu of arrest and released.
  • A caller notified police that his brother was stealing from their grandparents and had tried to set something on fire just before 11 pm. Police suggested
  • contacting the juvenile court.

Just Playing Around

Police received a report of a domestic incident at 11:46 am on Center Street. Officers spoke to a woman that said she and her husband argued over his ‘play wrestling’ with their child. The woman said nothing physical took place. Police observed no sign of any injuries.

What Are My Rights?

A man turned up at the Portsmouth Police Department just after 1 pm to ask the police exactly what his rights were regarding a custody situation.

He said his ex falsely claimed he is abusive and his violating a verbal custody agreement over a shared child. Officers advised him to contact Job and Family Service for the custody issue and told him he’d have to wait until she filed a police report to take action about any false allegations.

Lost And Found

A woman called police at 1:37 pm to report her nephew missing.  An hour later, officers discovered an air ambulance had transported him to a Columbus hospital last week.  Dispatch asked Columbus PD to go check on the man.

Knife, Billy Club, and Tomahawk

The manager from the Oasis Convenient Mart notified police just before 2 pm of a strange man pacing the parking lot. The bearded guy was armed with a large knife, billy club, and a tomahawk. By the time officers arrived, he was gone.

A landlord notified police just before 3pm that he found a wallet in the mailbox of one of his tenants. Officers located the owner and returned the wallet.

Angry Pregnant Woman Pulls Down Mask To Cough On People

Police answered a call to SOMC just after 3 pm. An angry pregnant woman decided to take out her frustration with her care on medical staff by cussing out the staff. When SOMC Security asked her to leave and not return, she pulled down her mask and began to cough on people.  Police said SOMC really wasn’t interested in pressing charges, they just wanted the incident recorded by officers.

Can’t We All Just Get Along?

  • Officers answered a call of a man and woman fighting in the street at Laurel and Ritchie. When the police arrived at 5:30 pm, they advised the pair to separate.
  • A Kendall Avenue woman said her husband was arguing with a man who tried to walk in their door. When police arrived at the Kendall Avenue apartment at 11:16 pm, they advised the parties to break it up.

Everything Is Fine

Police received an alarming call of a man staring off the side of the U.S. Grant Bridge just before 6 pm. He told police he was fine, he just liked to come up there to clear his head.  Officers took him back to his dorm on the campus of Shawnee State.
