PPD officers responded to a racially charged road rage incident and police try their best to keep people out of unsafe houses. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Unsafe House
Officers were once again called back to an abandoned Linden Avenue home for a report of people staying inside a dangerous vacant house.
Police say the residence is too dangerous to go upstairs and check for people inside since officers nearly fell through the floor the last time they were inside.
Police already reported the issue to Code Enforcement who condemned the home.
Tech Support Scam
A Forrest Avenue caller fell for a tech support scam. The victim called a fake Microsoft number and gave scammers access to their computer and their bank account and ended up losing money.
Police took information for a report.
Unwanted Guests
Kinney’s Lane neighbors reported people arguing inside a vacant home. Officers spoke to the people inside who claimed they had permission to be there. However, they could not prove it.
Police contacted Code Enforcement and told the people to leave.
About two hours later, officers responded to a report of an open door on the home and resecured the door.
Teen In Trouble
A worried neighbor asked police to check on a 13-year-old boy. The neighbor spotted the boy crying on his front steps and asked what was wrong.
The boy told the neighbor that his mom and brother both beat him.
When police spoke to the mom, she said the boy’s sister was on the way to get him. The mother denied beating him and said the boy had recently been suspended from school for fighting. The other children in the home appeared fine and said their mother did not beat them.
Daughter Confronts Grandma Over Custody
At 3 pm, a woman contacted police to report that her daughter had shown up at Kroger and attempted to make contact with her granddaughter. The grandmother has custody of the child and the daughter is not allowed to have contact.
An officer came to the store and escorted the woman to her vehicle and made sure she was not bothered by the daughter.
Home Alone
A 9-year-old boy left home alone called the police to report someone attempting to break into his home. Officers arrived at the house at the same time as the parents and discovered an open window made the noise that frightened the child.
Meanwhile at Speedway
- Speedway employees reported a man becoming aggressive with customers. He was gone by the time police arrived.
- At 4 am, a speedway employee reported a woman attempting to stuff items into her bag. She returned the items and was advised not to return to the store.
Homeless Woman Robbed on 8th Street
A man contacted police at 3:30 am to report that his wife was attacked and robbed at 8th and Harmon. He said his wife was homeless and would be waiting at BridgePort Rehab to speak to an officer.
Under the Influence
Officers were called to the Super Quik on the Scioto Trail to report two people passed out in a vehicle just after 4 am. Police took two people into custody.
Just after 11 am, officers responded to a possible overdose behind the Sixth Street Carryout. The woman refused medical treatment.
Racially Charged Road Rage Incident
Officers responded to a racially charged road rage incident on 11th Street just before 9 am. A caller reported 5 people fighting in a parking lot.
The incident started as a road rage incident and racial slurs were exchanged. The disagreement was all verbal and officers advised all parties to calm down.
One of the parties claimed there was a race war coming.
