Scioto County #1 for Opioid Deaths says, Attorney General

Today, Dave Yost, Ohio Attorney General sent out a disturbing message. “More Ohioans died of an opioid overdose during a three-month period last year than at any time since the epidemic began.”

“Opioid overdoses might have taken a backseat in our minds last year because of COVID-19, but make no mistake: Ohioans are dying at a devastating rate because of opioid overdoses,” Yost said

The hardest-hit counties in the second quarter of 2020 were Scioto (35.22 per 100,000), Fayette (20.67 per 100,000), and Franklin (19.43 per 100,000).

Surrounding counties include: Pike at 13.9 Ross at 19.2 Adams with 10.5 Lawrence with 12 points and Jackson with 6.0

The larger cities: Cincinnati 12.2 Columbus 19.4 Cleveland 8.8 toledo 15.3 Akron 9.9

Almost exactly one year ago (Jan, 28th, 2020) it was announced that between 2006 and 2014, over 48 million opioid pills were distributed by manufacturers in Scioto County alone.

That’s 617 pills for every person living in the county.

Commissioner Cathy Coleman said, at that time,  the numbers were difficult to believe. “The numbers are so large, you’d think they were nationwide.”
