Thieves made off with $10,000 worth of equipment from one local business and stole the trash from another. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
Police were called to the Speedway on Gallia just after midnight. A caller reported a woman stole several items and left with another woman. An employee managed to get the license number of the vehicle. Police took information for a report.
Suspicious Activity
Just after 5 am, officers responded to River Road and Court Street for a report of a man sleeping in a vehicle at the Court Street Landing. The man told police he had been thrown out of the place he was staying and had no place to go.
Towed Away
Seven vehicles were towed away to make room for painting on Waller Street just after 8 am. Additionally, officers issued several citations for expired tags.
Taking The Trash
Proving thieves will steal anything, a Walnut Street business called the police at 8 am to report an unusual theft. Thieves broke the lock to the dumpster and stole all of the trash.
While the complainant was glad to see the trash gone, police thought the dumpster company might want to file a complaint about the damage done to the dumpster.
Missing Toddler
A Wayne Avenue 3-year-old managed to get out of the house and it took her grandmother around 25 minutes to find her.
The child was discovered unharmed and returned to her family. No charges were filed.
Thieves Steal 60 Meters
Crooks hit the Adelphia impound lot on Washington Street and made off with a haul of equipment. Missing were 60 meters plus battery boxes and several copper meter risers.
The value of the missing items is estimated at around $10,000.
Traffic Stop Ends In Bust
Half an hour later police stopped a vehicle on Gallia Street with two men inside. The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office already had an open warrant for one man.
Officers said the vehicle had expired tags and the driver had a suspended license. They also discovered drug abuse instruments, multiple cut-off tools, gloves, flashlights, and a catalytic converter in the vehicle.
Suspicious Activity
An Auburn Avenue caller reported a man in a blue windbreaker accompanied by a woman was going around asking people for gas money. Additionally, the caller said the pair were checking doors on houses and cars. By the time police arrived, the two were gone.
Child Sex Offense Reported
Just after 2:30 pm, police took a report of a sex offense involving a minor.
Paving Crew Hits Water Meter
A Dewey Avenue Resident called police at 5:30 pm after a paving crew damaged a water meter in a yard. A truck from Boca Construction ran over the meter and caved it in leaving a large hole.
However, the water service was not interrupted. Police contacted the city who said they would cover up the hole and check on the damages.
