Woman Puts Out Fire With Mop Water
A McDemott resident reported a structure fire just before 2pm. She told dispatch she was trying to put out the fire, but they advised her to evacuate.
A few minutes later, she called back to report she’d successfully extinguished the blaze with a bucket of mop water. The fire department responded to the scene to make sure the flames were out and confirmed that the fire was successfully extinguished.
Camper Bursts Into Flames On Marne Avenue
A camper on Marne Avenue went up in flames just after 11 pm. By 11:06 pm, deputies reported that it was fully involved in flames.
Porter Township Fire requested aid from multiple local departments to get the blaze under control.
According to posts by people reporting to be family members, the vehicle was unoccupied after the passing of a relative, but still had many family treasures, including photographs inside the house.
The family seemed to indicate they believed the fire was suspicious in nature, posting, “We are going to find out who did this.” and “ No one the right to set it on fire. My grandfather worked all his life in the coal mines for the little he did have.”
Just after 9 am the next morning, a caller advised there were people walking around the site of the fire and that there could be a possible rekindling.
When a deputy arrived on the scene, they were unable to locate anyone in the area.
Injured Man Hunts For Help After St. Rte 335 Crash
Just before 4 am, an injured man went looking for help after a crash on Str. Rte 335, but had trouble finding assistance.
He knocked on an elderly woman’s door, asking for help, but she refused to open the door since she lived alone.
One deputy found the crashed vehicle, while another located the victim. He told officers he was having chest pains and that he had injured his head.
Officers sent for OSP and called for an ambulance to take the man to the hospital.
