Portsmouth, Ohio Police were flagged down twice on Saturday night. Once for a man who was angry they hadn’t issued a parking ticket and again for a complaint about social media posts. And those weren’t even the most unusual calls of the night. We break them down in these 9 slides.
House Calls
Just after midnight, officers responded to a report of subjects inside an abandoned house on 6th Street. The caller said they had flashlights. Police could not locate anyone inside.
Worried About Gun
Officers received a call about a possible issue with a gun just before 7 am. The caller said a woman said some concerning things about a gun.
She said there was a gun in the woman’s vehicle but she wasn’t sure it was a real one.
Condolence Call
Police had a sad errand early Saturday morning. They attempted to track down an Eck Ct. man to inform him of his mother’s passing.
His cousin, who was with his mother out of town, had been unable to contact him. Police were unable to find him.
Grand Theft Auto
A man notified police just after noon that his car was missing. He said he loaned it to his daughter and someone stole it. He didn’t have much information about the theft. Police suggested that the daughter call police to make the report.
Offices received a report of a stolen Chevy RV at 1:36 pm. The caller said it was missing from Vermont Avenue.
Under The Influence
At 12:23 pm, a caller reported an apparently high man walking around with a knife on 12th Street. Police could not find him.
Officers responded to a report of a man passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the People’s Bank Drive-Thru at 6:30 pm. A tow truck took away the vehicle. Officers arrested the man.
Can’t We All Just Get Along?
A woman called police just before 2 pm to ask for assistance in picking up her property. She said her brother assaulted her and refused to let her have her things. She was able to pick up her belongings.
Officers responded to the Oasis Convenient Mart parking lot just before 10 pm. A reported an assault at the Woodbine Apartments. Officers took his alleged assailant into custody.
DOA
A man called police at 2:15 pm in regards to his father-in-law. He had not heard from him in four days. The man was about to go into his father-in-law’s apartment in Hudson House with a maintenance man and wanted an officer to assist.
Sadly, his worst fears were realized. They discovered his father-in-law deceased inside the apartment. Police contacted the coroner and the next of kin was notified.
Parking Complaint
An angry man flagged down an officer on Kendall Avenue just before 8 pm. He complained about a parking ticket. He said police ticketed and towed his vehicle for blocking a fire hydrant. However, a car blocking the hydrant at 1802 Kendall was not ticketed.
Police checked the hydrant. An officer said that vehicles parked on either side on the hydrant were legally parked.
Flagged Down
A woman flagged down an officer on 8th Street at 9:30 pm to complain that people had talked about her on social media.
She then went to the house of the people who posted about her. She alleged they told her to leave or they would beat her up.
